August 30 and 31, 2008
Barber Motorsports Park
The
Alabama Region is very excited to be back to co-sponsoring its club racing
with its good friend and neighbor, the Atlanta Region. They had a wonderful date
(labor day weekend) on the calendar and we had a wonderful track available on
that date, so a match made in heaven was done. To the Alabama region members and
those who are not but play with us at our events, we REALLY REALLY NEED FOR
PEOPLE TO VOLUNTEER. WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?
-
You have
a really fun time with some really good people who are crazy about cars and
racing
-
Volunteer
workers are actually going to get paid per shift. (Two shifts a day)
-
We will
as always have a really big party/social on Saturday night with food and
adult beverage
-
You get
a cool event t-shirt
-
You get
a “warm and fuzzy” from helping out. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY.
WE WILL TRAIN AND MENTOR YOU SO DON’T BE SCARED IF YOU ARE NEW TO THIS.
ALSO
THERE IS AN EXTRA ADDED ATTRACTION THIS YEAR……
THE
BARBER HISTORICS AT THE PARK ON AUGUST 30TH
Barber
Motorsports Park will celebrate the best in historic and vintage autos at the
inaugural Barber Historics at the Park on August 30th. This historic
sports car show will be held in the newly expanded Fan Zone at Barber during the
SCCA race on Saturday. Porsche, MG, Ferrari, Lotus, BMW, Corvette, MGB, Fiat,
Mustang, Alfa Romeo, and many others will be on display.
Staffing
the Labor Day weekend race.
To
those who have not helped our region with a club race before, you might be
surprised to learn just how many people it takes to run an SCCA race especially
one where we expect a lot of racers and a race filled weekend. It takes 80+
people a day to properly man the event. Our events are very professionally run
and that takes people. We have the need for corner workers, paddock helpers to
show racers where to park, grid and pit people, volunteers to help in timing and
scoring, and just plain gophers to help race administration run around and do
what is needed. I would ask that our members please step up to the plate and
offer your help whether it be for a half day, a whole day, or the whole weekend.
If you are going out of town on Labor Day weekend instead, we could still use
you on Thursday to help us in the paddock to show the racers where to park their
rigs. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions about
volunteering, feel free to email me at bhair@chslaw.com
If
you do not plan on volunteering well come out and watch the best sports car
racing in the Southeast. I would not be surprised if we had 250 racers show up
for the race. From ground pounding tube framed V8 cars to the humble slightly
modified Honda Civic, to open cockpit race cars. Hope to see you there!!!
